Panic have just released a new version of Coda, their excellent web development app. The big news for us is that it now includes a very nice plug-in extension API, so we are looking seriously at including full support for Coda in the initial release of MenuMachine 3. It looks like the new API supports everything we need to provide first-class support for MenuMachine, which is great.

Thanks for all your comments regarding other editors, we are certainly looking at all the options that you have suggested. Someone mentioned that it would be nice to have support for GoLive 9. We are not going to be targeting GoLive with the initial release as it simply doesn’t make business sense for us to pour development resources into a discontinued product. I’m not saying we won’t support it (I personally would like to see a GoLive extension, since I’ve spent a lot of time in that environment!) but it won’t be in the initial release.

    Please hurry with the Dreamweaver support before learning and adding all the extra stuff.. We’re dying out here… :-)

    @Brian:
    Don’t worry, we are working as fast as we can! Our income is dying too :-)

    had to switch to Dreamweaver, but as a longtime MenuMachine user, I really miss this extension. Can’t wait!

    Do you plan on making the Coda version of MenuMachine 3 as one combined app, or split up into different variations? (vertical, horizontal, effects, etc…) Is it possible that the outputted menu will be compatible with Adobe’s InContext Editing? Thanks for all your hard work.

  5. Rob Keniger Says:

    We haven’t announced yet what form the MenuMachine UI will take, but it will be very flexible. As for InContext Editing support, it’s not something we’re looking at for the initial release but we will investigate it.

    Hi Rob,

    I’m also still missing MM a lot! I’m very very much looking forward for a kind of stand-alone MenuMaker. Like many other web designers, I made the transition from working with GoLive to Dreamweaver. But I (as many others) moved further forward to working with a CMS. In my case TYPOlight (www.typolight.org), a very elegant system which has a growing community of fans. Like in other CMSs too, the navigation module in TYPOlight works with lists (UL / LI structure). Are you planning to make the new version of MM so that it can make CSS and JS files that can be used in conjunction with CMSs like TYPOlight and Joomla? Would be so nice.

    Bye,

    Just

    @Justs:
    Yes, the new version will play nicely with CMS and other server-side code.

    So is this plugin still being actively developed or is it going to be like Duke Nukem Forever? Q1 of 2009 was a while ago. Any updates?

    Haven’t used it but sounds interesting and I love Coda.

    I’m getting a little confused at the categories and when the last time this was updated.

    Please let us know… Is Menumachine 3 still being developed?

    I haven’t heard anything for quite a while. I think it would be nice to have a mailing list where we all get periodic updates to what’s going on with MenuMachine 3.

    Once again please let us know when we can expect a timeline for release. I hope it’s still being developed. I know you can make a much better version of creating menus than anyone else, so please let us know.
