Ok, so I’m rightly getting dinged by some commenters about my lack of communication regarding the state of MenuMachine. If I was in their position I would feel exactly the same.

Basically, as was pointed out by one commenter, the situation is that sales of MenuMachine 1 & 2 no longer constitute a viable income. GoLive is dead and few people are going to invest further in a product that is never coming back. This means that development on the new version of MenuMachine now has to fit in with other projects that do pay the bills.

This means that I am simply not able to develop the new version of MenuMachine as fast as I would like. This is not a situation that I planned for, but it is unfortunately economic reality.

Believe me, I desperately want MenuMachine for the Mac to be released at least as much as you do. I enjoy developing it and I enjoy the relationship I’ve had with many of you as customers over the years. I’m very sorry about the current situation.

MenuMachine is still definitely a live project, there is not much work left to do before release and I hope to deliver it to you sooner rather than later.

So, what’s the Vegas line on MM3 being out this year?

  2. Robert Cone Says:

Happy to beta test if needed. Keep moving forward Rob!

BTW, If your other projects are as good as MM was I am sure they are a big hit.

  3. mrsnak Says:

The longer menumachine is out of the public eye, and the more your former customers have gone elsewhere to find menu programs for DW, the harder it will be to reach the customer base you once had.
Really rooting for you to get something going.

  4. Brian Says:

The update is much appreciated. I check in every month to see what is happening and am disappointed to see nothing.

I for one still use GL because of MM and am willing to wait before migrating to DW as nothing I have seen out there has a touch on MM

    Good luck with the project.

  5. Merle Melvill Says:

Am still hanging in here, waiting.

  6. Rolando Says:

How about starting a beta testing team? I would be glad to test out the new MM.

  7. Frederick Potter Says:

I think many people appreciate that you have at least responded. If it is financial concerns that are holding you back, then it might be a good idea to block off an “intense focus” period to try and get this project done before everyone has given up and moved on. I am sure that if you did, your financial situation would improve radically from the sales and upgrades to the new version. If you are stuck on any aspects of the coding, then get help from the plethora of talent out there that would be happy to help.

In any case, people hate being kept in the dark. Most people would rather have an honest report of progress than to hear nothing at all. Whatever it takes, just get it done and the money problem will solve itself.

There ya go! Communication is key! 7 positive posts in 2 days.

No-one wants you to fail Rob. MM was a fantastic product on GoLive and I’m sure MM3 on Dreamweaver will be too. There are lots of people who want to help pay your bills. Now your personal paradigm has appeared, I think you’ll find people are more tolerant. We’re still gonna bitch ‘n moan about how long it’s been… but at least we can do it WITH you too! Best of all… there ARE still people here to do it with! But… be as quick as possible! There will be competition!

    Rob said:

And many of use can say “ditto”…

    keep on keepin’ on… :-)

  10. AirDog242 Says:

Ok, now that you have come out of the dark part of the way, how about all the way into the light?

Only you know how much time you can spend on the project so only you know approx when you can deliver. How about some info on when.

Now, I said this part in a much, much earlier post. Perhaps you cut some features and consider shipping a v0.75 release that most all of us would pay for with a free upgrade to a real v1.0 release. This would generate cash and help you and we would get a product to work with. Also this could provide valuable feedback for the 1.0 release.

    How about it?

  11. Jens Alstrup Says:

So sad that Adobe abandoned GL, especially in such a treasonable way, just after the release of version 9. This put the development af MM astray and pick pocketed money from GL-users for a version never intended to continue. Well, done is done and respect for Adobe gone.

So, Rob, I hope you will soon have a windows version of MM to DW. That will make me send some money in your direction to buy it!

  12. Peggy Hindahl Says:

I also anxiously await the release, however, until then, I am placated with an ongoing excuse to keep using GoLive . . .

  13. Chris Magee Says:

How about releasing it into the wild as a beta? I’m sure everyone will be happy to give you feedback as bugs are found. Plenty of software comes out that way these days.

  14. Merle Melvill Says:

I certainly will be happy to purchase a beta. Still hanging in here waiting patiently.

  15. erin Says:

I will also pay for the beta. Hang in there!

  16. Frank Zander Says:

I don’t understand the DW-windows-user who formerly used Golive now moan. There exist a very very good “Stand-Alone”-Version of MM2 for Dreamweawer: MM2 with Golive 8 ore 9 – only for making menus with MM2 and embed the MM2-menus in DW-Websites. In DW cs4 or cs5 you can see the menues in the live-preview. That’s perfect!

  17. Jeremy Gugenheim Says:

For that to work you would need licences for both GoLive & Dreamweaver and if you cross-graded then Adobe killed your right to use GoLive. I haven’t tried GoLive since moving, but when I tried to start PhotoShop on my PC to unload the license before uninstalling it (I have cross-graded that to the Mac as well), it refused to start saying it wasn’t licensed any more!

If only Adobe’s software was as functional as their licensing system!

  18. stephenwho Says:

Keep going Rob, please! Just rebuilt from scratch my site – not worked on since 2006 – and made the decision that GoLive was still the way to go and MenuMachine was still the way to present my navigation options. Only thing missing for me is the ability to right-click on a navigation link to open the link in a new tab or window – that is the only thing my customers ask for that is not there. And I apologise if I missed that setting and would appreciate workaround instructions if available ;-) Thanks!

  19. Ron Says:

I know all too well about needing to balance small, but important, projects with ones that pay the bills.

I’m just happy for the update and to know that it’s still in development. As long as it eventually ships, I’ll buy it.

Keep up the good work Rob!

  20. Culo Tonto Says:

  21. Evelix Says:

Adobe was a great company once, until they apparently decided that morality and customer loyalty weren’t relevant to their business plan. I know I’m not the only one who hated Macromedia and all their works, still hates DreamWeaver and still uses GoLive CS2 with MM. There are a lot more of us than you might think, almost all ready to pay an upgrade fee!

  22. John Says:

If yor using GL CS2 still you are creating content “old school” style. Hopefully not for clients as the new web market requires the flexibility of CSS styled HTML instead of table based designs. MM does NOT support the mobile touch market and thus it is dead.

  23. Margaret-Ann Says:

Have just been forced to purchase Dreamweaver as I purchased new iMac with Snow Leopard. Found out that GoLive is not compatible with the new Mac OS!! Spoke to Adobe and of course, they will not be supporting GoLive to the new Mac OS,(they have “washed their hands” of GoLive).

I dislike Dreamweaver and now have to spend hours learning the software. I do hope that Menu Machine will be available, it is a great product and will also be willing to pay.

  24. Armando Says:

I am running the latest 10.6.x, I run GoLive 8 and 9 with no problems….I don’t use 9 at all but It can run.

I have been using dreamweaver and Coda for about a year now, and while I love GL’s site management and table capabilities, I like DW for CSS design. I have been hand coding my CSS for a few months now and use DW for its live view function. I suggest leaving GL alone and learn to code your sites with CSS and use DW.

  25. Patrice Says:

Margaret: I am on a new MacPro, running Snow Leopard. I use Golive all the time for my older sites. Have you tried to install it yet? I am running GL6 and GL8 on it.

  26. Gary Says:

Used Go-Live and menu machine since version GL6. Using Go-Live CS2 on new intel mac with snow leopard, runs it no problem in native, excellent apple stores tell you what free software to download to run older software. Big fan of menu machine. Like others forced down the Dreamweaver CS4 route. Many sites in the Go-Live though.

Just please give us a realistic launch date for MM3 for Dreamweaver!! Loads of us want to stay with you and upgrade to that, the money will come in, but if kept in the dark with no near future date we will all have moved on and then no money will come in. Please post an advice urgently, thank you.

  27. Joanie Says:

I, too, anxiously await the new MM and pledge my financial allegiance when you have even a beta product.

I am not as advanced as probably all of you are here. I have learned how to build my sites in GoLive; I am self-taught and I know what I know and no more. Know what I mean?

I have a question, though, that you experts can probably help me with. I could not find a solution anywhere, so I am turning to MM, thinking it holds the key. I am trying to put a left-side menu box that is something of a floating box on top of a static block of text, be it a table or another floating box, whichever turns out to being the right way to go.

My issue is that with the menu over the text block, I need the text in that block to wrap nicely around the menu sitting on top of it to the left.

I cannot find any place where this is discussed or where anyone has ever asked this question before, so I have made peace with the fact that it is clearly the stupidest question ever asked.

Does anyone here have an opinion? Is simply locking down my menu box to my text block and then using an image or some other spacing element behind the menu box sufficient to do what I need? When I tried that outside of MM, I ran into the obvious problem of my floating box not “floating” with the rest of my page when the browser was resized.

If someone can make heads or tails out of this rambling question, I can provide a pdf that shows a screenshot of what I am trying to do.

I am indebted to the genius who can pull my feet out of this fire.

  28. Patrice Says:

CSS may be the solution to this but I’m not the most expert with CSS and don’t want to assume it can be done, especially since I’m not exactly sure what you mean.

We still have a GoLive mail list that is functioning. The list went down, and when it came back up, most folks were MIA. However, we have a head count of 47 who found their way back. To sign up, send an email to golive-index@lists.lassosoft.com.

  29. DMeyler Says:

Well it’s been over a month since Rob Keniger dropped a note offering noncommittal hope regarding the progress and future of MM3.

    So, what’s the latest?

  30. DMeyler Says:

The crickets are chirping. This can’t be good.

  31. Uri Says:

    Give it up.

  32. DMeyler Says:

Give up what? Looking for something resembling a progress update after a month and a half?

Or, give up the suspicion that waiting for MM3 is looking like a modern rewrite of “Waiting for Godot”?

    The crickets are still chirping.

  33. Michael Says:

    Are we there yet …

  34. ommpaLoompa Says:

    YAWN…

  35. Frederick Potter Says:

Look Rob, I have to move on. I have been waiting long enough and I am tired of checking your site and blog with no result. If you ever get this done, drop me a note at info@editionsbyfrederick.com

I will look at it and if it is better than whatever I wind up using now, I will be happy to jump on board. Good luck and I hope you get it finished before it is too late.

  36. I make puppy websites Says:

I’m still using Pagemill on my Macintosh Centris 610 and it rocks. Will the new MM3 support Pagemill? Its the best!

If your puppy needs a website I can make one for him. : )

  37. I make puppy websites Says:

Will the new MM3 be puppy friendly?

  38. DMeyler Says:

    Will the new MM3 be?

  39. Dirk Levy Says:

Move on Rob, please. Still using GLCS2 and MM2 on a new Intel-iMac and 10.6.x without any problems and so do many other over here in Germany. DW is not the solution. And CSS-based sites are also good to build up with this combination… ;-)

  40. Rod Says:

Beware: Not all MenuMachine menu templates work with Chrome (Mac) and Windows in general. I got caught with my pants down in a big deal client meeting yesterday. They couldn’t see the pull-downs on their Windows-based boxes on one site, but they could with another. And they were right. I had to go back and create pages with linked menus to compensate. This subtle error in the implementation of the MM2 javascript for two largely identical menu types could have been easily corrected under normal circumstances, that is, with help from your “support team,” just like the old days. But you are not only failing to come through with a new version of MenuMachine, you’re no longer supporting MM2 and the inevitable changes in browsers and operating systems since Golive went away. This waiting and waiting has become more than a waste of time, it’s become an embarrassment. Yesterday’s meeting was the last straw. Evidently, Rob, you don’t seem to realize how much your customers yearn for your (former) ability to respond and innovate. At this point, you and your company have become a drag on my business, and others too, i.e., those who have long since given up on you, so I suggest you simply admit that you can’t (or won’t) deliver, and get out of the way. As for me, I’ve had it, I’m tired of kicking this dead horse, and am moving on; something I should have done years ago! Tata, everyone!

  41. Paul S. Says:

What’s more pathetic? Not being able to release a follow-up menu for Dreamweaver or coming back here to this blog month after month after year after year? I would say both. Later —

  42. Russ Says:

This is all too much for me also.
I’ve waited years for mm3. Seems as if i have been living in lala land and now that i’ve come back to earth, I realise, Menumachine will never be.

I will have to move on.

Sorry, But I can’t make waiting my life’s work.

  43. Michael Says:

    Another missed opportunity…

  44. Kris Hunt Says:

I remember when I told my clients not to worry about their menu not being search engine friendly, because MenuMachine was going to be updated with CSS menus in March. Ah, good times.

  45. Andy Says:

It’s been a blast, but enough is enough.

This could’ve been a big money box for you Rob

    Toodle pip!

  46. Greg Says:

    I’M FINALLY FREE!

If you’re like me you’ve been waiting for Menu Machine forever and why? Because you (we) didn’t want to learn something new!!

Here’s how I fixed it in the last 24 hours:

    I made a To-Do List:

    1. Move ALL GoLive websites over to Drewamweaver, uninstall Golive from my computer and shred all Golive install disks.

That’s what it finally took. I was just so much easier to keep using GoLive I just kept using it – year after year after year.

    NEWS FLASH: GoLive = EOL

All Golive install discs have been shredded and boy was that fun! Highly recommended!!

  47. Greg Says:

    Also -

Golive is a crash waiting happen. You can’t even install YouTube videos anymore. Well, as long as you don’t preview them – you might be ok – the second you preview – CRASH!! Adobe and Menu Machine have abandoned GoLive – I suggest you do the same. Move onto Dreamweaver – now!!

  48. Micdim Says:

I too am very disappointed in waiting for so long for something that doesn’t seem to be coming.

I’m moving on and hope someday to here from you Rob.

Sorry to see such a great product fall.

    P.S.
Will still hope but won’t be returning for the disappointed. I hope someday you get this out Rob, and with whatever is happening in your life, I hope it turns out ok!

  49. ross Says:

I check back here every month or so… whenever I want to be aggravated. In the mean time, I’ve moved on to DreamWeaver and and CSS menus. SuperFish isn’t bad at all.

  50. Armando Says:

Frank seems to be overstaying his welcome….

  51. Stephen Hart Says:

    Rob,
I hope you can complete MenuMachine for Dreamweaver.
I got a slight and surprising reprieve this week testing out my new iMac (intel) with GoLive. The surprise is that it runs better than it did on my 7-year-old G5 2×2. But eventually I’ll have to migrate my sites to Dreamweaver, and I hope I can continue to use the wonderful MenuMachine.

  52. Andrew Says:

I’ll be honest: MM is the only thing that’s kept me with GoLive.

I’m not saying DW is better; just, that I’m pretty comfortable with GoLive and SIMPLY LOVE USING MenuMachine.

    But GoLive is aging quickly…

FYI my main reason for sticking with it, besides ease of use, is how flexible it is and that I can individually color menu items – i really need this.

  53. Trevor Gilchrist Says:

    Rob,

Completely understand what you’re saying. Many of us face the same dilemma, day-in, day-out. It’s hard. No one here has grounds to “ding” you.

You don’t need to be told, again, that people want what you’re selling. You get that. But do you full get _why_ they want it?

    There STILL isn’t an alternative.

I STILL manage 5 sites in GoLive 6, JUST so I can use MM.

    No other reason.

If there’s something else that’ll do the job as well as MM, then I will switch — I have to keep the bread coming in too — I’d just rather give my money to YOU than some other developer. You’ve earned it.

Is there ANYTHING your loyal customer base can do to help you down the finishing strait? Pre-orders, perhaps? Concentrated NDA-based beta testing? Coffee delivered to your door hourly?

    Whaddyawegottado to help you here?

    Respectfully.

  54. mrsnak Says:

There’s obviously more going on than meets the eye.
    Let’s all move on.
I’m buying Extend Studio’s offering to see how it works.
Rob, we loved the work you did. Best of luck to you.

  55. Nick Says:

I know how hard it is to see a big project like MM through to completion when there are a thousand other things pulling you in every direction – like making a living. My site designs are moving away from dropdowns to top and side navigation now, in no small part due to smartphone browsing, but many of my sites are still using MM to great effect. All I can say is, whether or not the new MM makes it to market, MM2 has saved my bacon on more occasions than I care to mention – so thanks for that Rob.

  56. Randy Says:

Just wanted to leave a word of encouragement. Love MM and still using goLive because of MM! I’ve had great success with sites developed for mobile devices using MM. Hope you can find time to further develop it. Keep your stick on the ice, we’re all in this together.

  57. A long time user Says:

Any christmas presents for us, Rob? :-)

  58. Gabrielle Says:

I agree with Ross, I come here every month or so, but now I am not aggravated, just amused, There are now so many ways to go with menus, I have been mostly designing websites with the Genesis framework for WordPress, they use SuperFish for their menus, works really well. I haven’t tried using images in my menus any more so I don’t know if SuperFish supports that but if it is CSS driven, images can always be in the background. Time to more on, “these aren’t the menu systems you are looking for.”

  59. RJ Says:

I know you mentioned you are busy, but we all are. What I need is an answer. A blog is only as good as it’s last update. Your updates have been far and few between. MM is a great product, so at the very least keep your loyal fans, who financially supported you all these years, informed on a regular basis. That is the least you can do.

  60. Peter N Says:

Rob, I hope you have a happy and wonderfully productive New Year. I can wait for the new MM because I want quality and not a rushed job.
I think some people forget that it Adobe that caused the problem by ceasing production of Go-Live.
So keep up the good work Rob!

  61. Tony Lancaster Says:

August 24th – you say you are ‘rightly getting dinged’ – frankly dinging is too good for you. I begin to think that modest, properly supervised torture involving truth drugs is more your just dessert. Here we are another year and still you won’t either give us the code or give us the truth. New year resolution for you – tell us what’s going on. Please.

  62. Matthias Says:

BTW: it seems as if it makes sense to regard MM as dead as GL?

NOI – but maybe a honest statement could be helpful? And fair?

Greetings & Happy New Year :-)

  63. John Cavanagh Says:

I check in every few months to see if anything truthful will appear on this blog. Nope. Meantime I have moved on, learned Dreamweaver, learned to code my own drop-downs, and use products by Project Seven and Web Assist and DMXzone when I am feeling lazy. True none of them are as good as Menu Machine >was<. But guess what? I also have to eat as well. It is a shame that all the good will Menu Machine generated when it was a real product has been thrown to the curb by the lack of truth by those coding it.

Folks…face facts, this is a sham product and it is time for you to kiss the past (and anything this guy ever does in the future) goodbye.

  64. Dave Says:

    Beta testers needed.
